Ways To Go Green

Green Living With Greenfield

We continue to look for ways to produce and sell our products in a way that is as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. In 2009,  we grew a trial selection of plants in bio-pots, containers made from natural products that will biodegrade in time. We found these to be successful, but the product cost for these bio-pots is still prohibitive enough that for 2010 we will once again only be using them for a small selection of products. We will continue to have available a bin of our own used containers free for your use in potting up plants or seed starting. (No sense buying more plastic.) But we can no longer support the collection of used plastic pots for recycling, as we have nowhere to recycle them. Our efforts will be directed to making available decomposable pots and supporting this long-term effort.

  • Ask us about how to create your own native garden, rain garden, green roof.
  • Install a rain barrel. We have some economical ones for sale.
  • Start your own compost bin, ask us for more information.
  • Ask about natural fertilizers and pest control products we are carrying.
  • Plant a veggie container and pick your own organic produce from your own yard. We will have many varieties of tomatoes, peppers and other vegetable starts to choose from.
  • Shop local growers that reduce trucking fuel consumption.
